Dr. Larry Kanters

Dr. Larry Kanters graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1980. He practiced in Kingston Ontario before moving to Alberta. He practiced in Ponoka for a year before starting the Optometry practice in Airdrie in 1983 which became the Airdrie Optometry Centre and later the Airdrie Eyecare Centre. In 1992 when the scope of Optometry increased to include the use of prescription eye drops, he attended a clinical training session in Okalahoma and received his Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent (TPA) certification.

Dr Kanters regularly volunteers his time with CUPS to provide eyecare to those less fortunate and looking for a hand up. He has also been a member of the Rotary and Knights of Columbus clubs during which he supported their charitable work.

Dr. Kanters’ wife Donna Lohnes currently works at the Airdrie Public Library as head of adult services. They have 2 daughters Janine and Alexandra. When Dr Kanters is away from the office he enjoys golfing, cross-country skiing, photography and playing the guitar.
